How to resize OR  get rid of  dimesion arrows

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

Hi,

I am a newbie to cadsoft eagle and to whole PCB designing process.

I am able to learn basic operations of eagle using online tutorials and going through manuals.

While working on my first project I am running into few roadblocks and since I am new to this a trivial problem can be daunting.

Please provide input  / directions to following issues.

1) How to resize OR  get rid of  dimesion arrows?

I created a PCB of size 60mmx60mm , I needed to increase PCB size to 90mmx90mm due to modifications.

I am not able to resize the dimention arrow to new size or get rid of it (so that I could create a new dimension arrow).

I tried holding control and clicked on resize button before trying to stretch the "dimension arrow", it wouldnt work.

e.g.

original

-------------------------------   < bottom border / line of PCB >

|<-----------60-------------->| <dimension arrow indicating length = 60mm>

I want new as

-------------------------------------------------   < bottom border / line of PCB >

|<-----------60-------------->|                     < I want dimension arrow stretched to 90mm> <also need to know how to delete it >

2) the components in the eagle library that I am using have OVAL pads (3mm), How do I modify them to be ROUND and of smaller size (2-2.5mm).

Is there a good tutorial somewhere?

Thanks in advance.

The trick here is to locate the 'handle' for the dimension object.

    Read the HELP on Dimension

There are three points to identify

Once you know where they are you can use MOVE to drag the dimension from

60mm out to 90mm. You want the ones at the ends, They dont live at the arrow

ends but at the beginning end of the extension bar. The points that you

dragged away from to place the dimension text and arrow in a nice out the

    way place.

To delete the dimension,  select DELETE and then click on any 'handle'

location. The easiest one to find is in the middle of the dimension arrow.

The others, as before, for your style of dimension, are   at the beginning

end of the extension bar. The points that you dragged away from to place the

dimension text and arrow in a nice out the way place.

Oval pads; there are two answers here.

    (a) You can change all pads on your board to round with a setting in the

design rules (DRC) on the tab SHAPES change the PADS from "As in Library" to

    "Round"

    (b) Change the pad shape in the Library package. Perform a Library update

all in the Library and then again in your board editor.

The size of the pads is dynamic and under the control of the DRC. It depends

on the drill size and the DRC settings. It's a long story to write here but

read the HELP included with Eagle.

There are many tutorials on the web. Hopefully there is one that fully

explains this quirky feature of Eagle.

    All the best

    Warren
