First schematic: IC not in library?

autodeskguest
autodeskguest over 17 years ago

I'm about to draw my first schematic, but the IC is not in the library!

The IC I'm using is a DIL40 PIC18F4520. The library has a PIC18F4550 which

has a similar layout for most pins.

What is the best plan??

Panic over, found one on the download page. Out of interest though ...

Congrats, you have the chance to edit your first library, which is the

    other half of layouting image

Check the manual in the doc directory. What I would do:

    1. From the Control panel(cp) create a new library (lib)and leave it OPEN.

    2. In cp go to the desired lib, rightclick the device you want to modify

and select "copy to library". (Repeat with other packages / devices).

    3. Save your new lib.

    4. In the new lib EDIT the pin NAMES of the symbol according the datasheet.

    5. CHANGE the DIRECTION of pins (I/O, in, out etc) according datasheet.

    6. Rename the symbol.

    7. Create a NEW device and name it.

    8. ADD your new symbol to the device.

    9. With "New" (bottom right) select a package for that device.

    10. CONNECT the Pins of the symbol to the Pads of the package.

    11. Save the lib and close it. With USE (your lib) you have the lib

    available in your schematics.

If that is your first own library, I would do it with an eight pin

fantasy device first, to understand the handling.

And do not forget, there is allways the F1 key image

    I'm dealing with similar issues.

I don't find any COPY TO LIBRARY function by right click or any other means

There is COPY, but that seems not to do anything. It does not ask for a destination, nor does it offer a PASTE or equivalnet operation

My GUI does not seem to match what is described in the documentation

    Target library must be open.
