XML format for libraries

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

Hi, since version 6.xx the libraries should have been converted to XML from the previous binary format...am I correct?

I use version 6.50, free edition, and all my projects and newly created libraries are still in binary.

I can not find in menus any chance to import/export/convert to XML.

What is wrong? Is there a setting somewhere or this feature is not available with the free version ?

Thanks

P.S. this is my first post to the forum, so please forgive me if something is wrong.

I wanted to do a search inside the topics, but I can not find the classical "Search" field.

If it exists, where is it ?

Just open your old library with Eagle Version 6.xx and save the library.

You don't have to export/import/convert manually.

Thanks Patrick for your prompt reply.

    I'm quite confused!

I use Eagle since version 4.something and in these years I created a lot of

    components.

When a new release is available, I switch to it and then I move my own

libraries in the new LIB folder.

Most of these have been created with versions 6.xx, so they should already

    be in XML.

Actually, when I open them with a text editor (Ultraedit), some are in XML

and some are still in binaries.

In example: in August 2012 I made an Analog Devices DDS library with about

    6 components (fresh, not copied).

On that date I was for sure at release 6.3, eventually at 6.4, but the lib

    was still in binary.

I opened the lib and then saved it without any modification...and

'whoilà', it is now in XML!

Does it mean that a newly created lib is formatted in binary and only

    re-saving it is converted?

    Confusing!

    EDIT:

in the meantime, I made a test lib with just one pin...it has been coded in

    XML !? (even more confusing)

I think this message does require an answer; it is only to let you know my

    feeling.

    Thanks anyway.

I think by far the most likely explanation for all that you have

observed would be that in August 2012 you were still using V4.x or V5.x
