Help with Swap Level

The CA3081 is a common-emitter array but the device in transistor.lbr is

designed such that the eight transistors are fully independent symbols.

The library provides that single common emitter on the first transistor

only - because there's only one pin that's about all it can do. However,

this means the first transistor is fundamentally different from the

other seven - it's a three terminal device where they are all

two-terminal. That makes it impossible to have it at the same swap level

as them.

In my part all the transistors are isolated, so it's a bit different them the CA3081 I referred too.  Is my understanding of how swap works correct?  Should I set the swap level to 1 for all four transistors and would that let the autorouter automatically swap them around if necessary?

Help swaplevel

It means that pins with the same swaplevel can be interchanged.

If you give all the pins of a Transistor the same swaplevel, i.e.1 that

would mean that you could  interchange base with collector or emitter

with base and I wnt to see that device that works correctly  then

Besides imho the autorouter connects pins you connect in the .sch but

doesn't know what swaplevel is. So if swapping it's up to you.

Scott,

You are correct in your understand of gate level swaps.  Set each gate

to a swap level of 1.  However, I do not believe that the autorouter

will perform the swaps.  That's left to the engineer to figure out.

You are correct in your understand of gate level swaps.  Set each gate

to a swap level of 1.  However, I do not believe that the autorouter

will perform the swaps.  That's left to the engineer to figure out.

That's not quite how I was thinking of creating the part.  There seems to

be two kinds of swaps. One is a pin-level swap which is defined when you

are creating the symbol.  The other is a device-level swap that's defined

when you create a device. I could build my transistor symbol and make each

pad swap 0 so they can't be interchanged.  Then when I build my device, I

could bring in 4 transistor symbols and assign each one to swap level 1.

This way the whole transistor could be swapped with another whole

transistor, but the pins can't be swapped around within a transistor. I've

never taken advantage of this feature, but I think that's how it would

work.
