Newbie problem with MicroChip library?

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

Hello,

A client has me using Eagle 6.5.0 . I haven't used Eagle in a very long time, so maybe this is a silly "newbie" problem.

If I use the microchip library, and (for example) a PIC18F4455_TQFP part into a schematic, it doesn't behave normally.

Once I place the part on the page, I can't move it or delete it.

Other parts from other libraries don't behave this way, but I still suspect I must be doing something wrong. I want to use the symbol and footprint from that part as the basis for a PIC18F46K20, but when I try that I have the same problems.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

A very quick guess it the part origin may be too far from where you are

    clicking.

    Thanks for the reply.

The distance from the origin doesn't seem to be the problem.

I do notice that if I group the symbol components, I can then do a group move or a group delete, which would seem to me to mean they aren't grouped correctly elsewhere.

If (for example) I add a vanilla 7404, I can move or delete it without the additional steps.

There's probably something simple I could do in the library editor, but I'm not sure what.

    Thanks,

    Hi Jim

I have no problems ADDing that part (PIC18F4455_TQFP) to a schematic and

MOVE it around at will, as expected.

There is nothing you have to do in the library editor. Perhaps your

Microchip library file is corrupted. You have said you do not have an

    issue with other devices.

You may have to download Eagle again and extract the libraries out of

    it, as a last resort.

Just to be clear, as you did not say explicitly, the following is your

    scenario?

You open a new schematic (Make sure its a schematic and not a symbol

editor in the library as they look similar.Just fishing here).

    Click ADD

    Select the Microchip library

    Locate the PIC18F4455_TQFP

Double click on it or click OK

The device is attached to your mouse pointer and you can click to drop

    it onto your schematic.

    Click STOP

    Click MOVE

Click and hold on the origin of the newly placed PIC18F4455_TQFP

    Drag to move the part.

Does that not work for you?

    HTH Warren

Hi Warren, thanks for the reply.

No, I have to drag over the part with Group selected before I can move it.

    Thanks,

    H Jim

Attach a schematic consisting only of this troublesome part and we can

have a look at whats going on
