Where are the files?

sailmike1
sailmike1 over 11 years ago

I just made some changes to an old PCB and opened CAM to create a new set of gerber files. Those files appear to have been created, but they aren't showing up in the project folder. One of the following pictures shows the files in the control panel window. I followed the path indicated at the bottom of the screen, but they just aren't there. What's going on? I'm running Eagle 6.4 standard edition on Windows 8.1.

Thanks,

Mike

Just a suggestion for the future, but I think you should make an EAGLE directory under your documents directory and change the directory setting in the EAGLE control panel to use it instead of the Program Files area...

If the path you thought your files were in was under the "Program Data" or

"Program Files" path, then check the "virtual store" under your account -

windows has this "feature" where it will put things there and let you think

you put them in the install directory.  BUT it doesn't tell you it did that

and you can spend days trying to figure out why some things can find them,

but you can't or the latest license file you put in the install directory

is not working (an old version was in the "virtual store" and it was

looking there first.  At least under windows 7, the virtual store will be

    "C:\Users\mikey\AppData\Local\VirtualStore" (obviously change the account

    name to yours).

mikey (having been bitten by this one recently with another program ... )

Mikey, I had the computer do a search for the files and found them in the folder you mentioned. Thanks!

From the control panel in Eagle I changed the projects directory. I hope this solves the problem. I hope I don't have to do this for every project.

Glad you found them - that "virtual store" has tripped up quite a few

people.  Where you can get bitten (I think this is where it got me) was

when I tried to drag some license files from an email to a "protected"

folder.  Windows apparently handles files from an email differently than

files you have on your desktop for example even if you have admin rights

the whole time.  The bottom line is to recognize that apps that try to

write to the protected folders (many older apps store ini files and other

such things in their install folder) end up with stuff in the "virtual

store" which can cause interesting things down the road.  I first read

about it in this forum if I remember correctly where someone had some

library files that Eagle could see, but he could not see them with windows

explorer looking in the directory they said they were in (they were

actually hidden down in the "virtual store")
