Connecting TRACE to VIA?

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

Hello,

1st-time Eagle 6.5 user here...

In order to get my vias to connect to their respective ground or poser plane, I had to rename them to the plane name...

Question: Are vias automatically connected to Trace/Routes? Or do they also need to be renamed, and if so, what name do I use? The Route name or the NET name?

The rubber-banding does not connect to them - so assuming they are *not* connected. Don't want to add vias to the schematic... so, assuming they have to be added toi the NET, but don't know the proper procedure.

Thank you for your help.

You probably aren't making this mistake, but just in case...

Some people make the mistake of thinking they have to place vias, name

them to match the nets, then route through them. That's not the way to

work. When you are routing a net, starting on the top layer, then you

find you need to change to the bottom, just click the middle mouse

button. The next bit of trace will then be placed on the other side, and

as soon as you click to drop a corner the necessary via is added

    automatically.
