Export a layout to import it in an other CAD program

Hello,

I have a problem with the DXF export in Eagle. I have to export a coil layout and import this layout in a CAD simulation program to determine different parameters. I used the DXF ULP and opened the file with the CAD-Program. Firstly, I wasn't able to import the coil with the wire width - there is only the winding path. But that's okay, because I can sweep the cross-section along the path - at least I thought so: the lines aren't connected (see the attached picture). What am I doing wrong? Is there an easier way to export the coil layout?

Thank you very much.

Best regards

Albert

    Hi Albert,

I personally prefer to use the cam2dxf.ulp in situations like this since

it takes the gerbers and converts them to dxf files.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

    Best Regards,

    Hello Jorge,

thank you very much for your helpful response. Now the lines are connected with each other and the sweep along the path is possible without any problems. Now I try to optimize the work flow.

If I export the coil layout with the cam2dxf.upl there are semicircles on the rounded edges (see the attached picture) of the coil wire. I have to delete all these semicircles manually in the CAD program. Because this is very complicated I tried to set the wire width to zero and export the coil again. Now the semicircles are't longer in the CAD data but once again the lines aren't connected. It's possible that this is a problem especially of this coil because with an other coil it works without a problem. However maybe you know the problem and you have a helpful hint?

In addition I'm interested to export the coil with the specific wire width. Did anyone know a way to do that?

Thank you very much for your help. Your hint is a very great saving of labour.

    Best regards

    Albert

    Hi Albert,

That definitely looks interesting. Could you send the file to

support@cadsoftusa.com? I'd like to see what's causing those circles to

    appear on your exported coil.

    hth,

    Jorge Garcia

    Hello,

I have recently started using Eagle CAD for RF PCB design. I currently need to export my .brd layout file from Eagle to Agilent's Advanced Design System (ADS).

Any thoughts and suggestions on this would be appreciated.

    Many Thanks!

    Hi Hassan,

I don't know what formats Agilent's ADS software can import, but check

if it can import DXF files. If it can import those files then you can

obtain them from EAGLE by using the cam2dxf.ulp or the dxf.ulp included

    with EAGLE.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
