Is there a way to change display order of layers?

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if there was a way to change the order in which layers are displayed in Eagle.  For example, I'm trying to route a six layer, double sided board, and when routing the components on the Bottom, I need to have the Top layer displayed so that I don't place any vias underneath parts I've already placed.  However, having the Top layer displayed on top of the layer I'm trying to work on is distracting and sometimes confusing, so it'd be great if there's a way to have the Bottom layer displayed over the Top layer.

Thanks in advance!

    Hi everyone,

    Hi James,

While there is a very powerful alpha-blending engine under the hood, the

implementation doesn't allow for many options like what you are suggesting.

I use EAGLE just like you are suggesting (almost required for multi-layer,

dense boards) I had to write a whole ULP and supporting infrastructure.  I

have a ULP that maps to a quick key sequence that will increase the

alpha-value of the colour for a given layer which means that one layer will

be highlighted relative to the other layers.  Works great.

But to do this I have to re-write the entire colour palette every time I

use the key sequence.  And since the colour palette is stored with the

installation, and not in the design files, no one else can really see my

designs without reseting the palette indices (which I try to do before I

send my files to anyone else).

the thread if you want to see this.

    Cheers,

    James.
