Polygon pours not accepting vias?

daemach
daemach over 9 years ago

In my older boards I use polygon fills around my regulators on both the top and bottom to act as a heat sink.  I then use a bunch of vias to connect them thermally.  It may be the new version of eagle that is causing a  problem, but these vias are ending up in unrouted layer with airwires even though they have the same name as the polygons (like ground plane vias).  The pour isn't working properly either.

Can someone please tell me what's happening here?

As far as I know, if you are in a restricted area the polygons can't pour.

Eagle seems to be treating the polygons as rectangles on a restricted layer.  Vias dropped within the polygon are showing up as restricted on the top and bottom layer.  This didn't happen in previous versions of eagle.

If you turn off all layers except (1)Top and (41)tRestrict you will see

there is a restrict area the same size as your polygon. The same goes

for the bottom of the board with (16)Bottom and (42)bRestrict.

    How did that happen????

    So the fix is easy.

Display only layer (41)tRestrict and delete the rectangle.

    Repeat for layer (42)bRestrict.

Thank you very much.  How did that happen indeed...?  It has to have been a translation issue between 6.5 and the previous version.  I haven't run Eagle for over a year.  I upgraded then opened a file that used to work and here we are.

I have no idea, but as you said, the fix is easy.  Thanks for taking the time to help!  I'll check the obvious next time.  Turning the restrict layers on after getting that message in DRC should have been the next step.

It doesn't necessarily "have to have been" that...

    Turning the restrict

layers on after getting that message in DRC should have been the next

    step.

I believe there's been a change of behaviour in that older versions

failed to perform restrict checks in DRC if the restrict layers were not

shown. So the problem might have always been there but unnoticed.

Anyway, glad you've got it sorted now.
