hiV7: License server with 1 user

kikoun
kikoun over 9 years ago

hello,

We have a V6 professional license for 1 single user. Is it possible to purchase an upgrade to V7, but with a licensing based on a license server, even if we still have only 1 user license ?

Our computer and network manager prefers a license that is installed on our server than a license attached to a  specific computer, because :

- the license is not lost if we add to re-install the OS,

- the license is not lost if the computer need to be changed (because it's out of order, or  simply to have a more powerful)...

- We already manage different kind of license server in our company (flexlm ...).

If it's not possible (1 user license with server based licensing) we will use a license based on HOSTID. But what happen if we had to re-install the os on this computer ?

Currently this is not possible. 1 user licenses are tied by Host ID to

    two machines.

You would contact us, and we would issue a new license. Let me know if

there's anything else I can do for you.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia

    Hi,

Thank you for your answer. I discuss that with our computer and network manager, and I give you here his comments and questions :

    hello,

We have a V6 professional license for 1 single user. Is it possible to

purchase an upgrade to V7, but with a licensing based on a license

server, even if we still have only 1 user license ?

Currently this is not possible. 1 user licenses are tied by Host ID to

    two machines.

This is a bad news, because for evident maintenance reasons in an industry, having a software link to PC is not the best for company. It means that we can not easily switch this PC with an other one (in case of failure, or upgrade).

If it's not possible (1 user license with server based licensing) we

will use a license based on HOSTID. But what happen if we had to

re-install the os on this computer ?

You would contact us, and we would issue a new license. Let me know if

So Reinstalling an OS will changing the host ID. Very bad idea too ... for sames reasons.

Must we have the two host ID for purchasing a new license ? Or is it possible to give you the second host ID later ?

For us, a good alternative to the server solution, would be a license link to an usb dongle. Is that possible ?

We alway avoid the HOSTID option, for us and for our customers(*) because is the source of troubles.

(*)our company, Metrologic group, is also software editor sinse 30 years, and we protect our software we license server 'flexlm' or with an usb dongle that I had designed ( with eagle of course!....)
