Eagle upgrade and multiple versions in same PC why? any cons?

I have Eagle v 6.5, the software said I can upgrade to v 7. I installed it, now I have two eagle versions in PC.  Why is it that it is not replacing the older version? Will the new and old version co-exist in harmony. Will there be any future problem.

    Hi,

     

    Eagle  always proceed this way. The main advantage is that you still have the previous version, and it's safer like this. In a production environment ( industry ), it's good practice to have a plan B in case of trouble (if there is a bug in new version, you can use the previous one).

    Also, it's happen that new a version use a different way of saving your data. In that case the new version can open old files, but old version can not use these new files. So when you work alone it's not an issue, but when you have to share data with others people, who don't have yet update their software, it could be helpful to still have the previous version.

     

    Maybe the installation program could detect that you have a previous version, and ask you if you prefer to replace it or not. But it's easy to remove the previous version so...
