Can't find a common diode(1N4007)?

Former Member
Former Member over 9 years ago

I am new to Eagle... and wondering why I can't find a common diode like the 1N4007 in a through hole or even SMT?   It turns out I can find a generic diode symbol, but of course with no foot print for the board.  I need to generate or download these details...?  I can find many other diodes, zeners, LEDs, bridges, schottky, etc.  This seems odd to me.

How do I rectify this situation?   image  I am new to Eagle, though I used Ares and Proteus lite years ago, they are no longer available.

Thanks to all.

    Search for 1N400*,

which means anything that starts with 1N400 image

There's a 1N4004 in the diode library. Of course, it really ought to be

named 1N400* because the 1N4001 through 1N4007 are all the same symbol

and package and current rating - it's only the reverse voltage that

    distinguishes them.

It turns out I can find a

generic diode symbol, but of course with no foot print for the board.

Really? Are you sure? Because when I look at the generic "DIODE-"

component in the diode library (which surely is the most obvious place

to find it) it has a vast array of possible packages associated. I'm

absolutely sure the 1N4004's DO-214 is one of them.

The default libraries certainly don't cover everything but they're not

    that bad.

OK, if I search around I can find the library, but it is not being accessed.

    I have it installed in C: > Eagle-7.1.0 > lbr

That library has 3 folders electro, element14, ltspice and a whole slew of files one of which is diode.lbr

Good golly.  Now I went to look for it by opening a schematic, selecting ADD (component) and searching for "diode".

NOW it is there.  Along with a whole slew of other diodes I had not seen before.  (Formerly, I had a list of specific companies diodes like Zetex, but not the list I have now.)

So I fixed it, but I don't know how.  Yesterday, I had tried a bunch of things.  I see the "Library" menu with "use, open, update" and "update all".

I had the most recent version of Eagle, so Update All should not have done anything.  I don't know when it might have changed.

I just don't know why this works now. I could have other libraries that have not loaded, like a Phoenix connector I am using.

I did see a post in a forum about Eagle should NOT be loaded in the C directory, but no one said how to address this issue.

    Thanks to everyone!
