I'm planning to design my first 4 layer board. There will be a 7805 regulator to supply 5V to various IC's and then a LM317 to regulate the current to 350mA to power a number of LED's. I'm thinking of making the middle two layers the output from the current regulator and ground. The LED's will be on one side and the control circuitry, which includes an oscillator, on the other. One of the pads for the LM317 will be oversized to act as a heat sink. The power source for the whole board is a six pack of C size batteries. The LM317 will be powered directly from the batteries. I'm looking for a tutorial and/or tips on how to go about designing a 4 layer board. Also, I'm concerned about shorts and how to spot them.
Thanks a lot,
Mike
