exit shortcut: what for ?

kikoun

I accidentally found that there is a really really stupid and useless short cut 'ALT+X' that exit eagle. Really annoying to see eagle disappear in a middle of my work.

And unfortunately, I assign other short-key near the X key (on French keyboard, the X is just near the ALT, so all my 'ALT +' sohrt-cut are high risk short-cut !!!!)

Why on hearth  there is still a short-cut like that ?

First there is already a short-cut (ALT + F4 on Windows platform) to close a software. so this short cut is redundant.image

Second, exiting a software is the less useful feature, so why a short cut ??? Who really use this ?????????image

Third, I get a workaround for the LBR, SCH, and BRD editors : I assign ';' to that shortcrust to disable this extra fast and super stupid exit feature. But how to do it for control panel ?????image

And last point : if someone need a short cut (in addition of the ALT F4) you can assign it.

SO PLEASE REMOVE THAT STUPID SHORT CUT !!!!!!!

I have the X key next to Alt too, but I've never accidentally hit it, but if I did, it prompts me to save files before exiting, so no loss of work.

It may be a redundant shortcut, but as a suggestion maybe it is unnecessary work to remove a shortcut that a few may use (in general people

always get upset if functionality disappears on a product).

    I get your point...

but in that case, just add it by default in the list of assigned key, so we can see it in the list, and remove it if we don't need it.

When I Eagle disappear for the first time, I look in the assignment Key and I saw nothing that could explain what happen... At first I though Eagle crashed. But it's later, when it happened again, I figure it out.

Second point, I not quite agreed with you when you said 'no loss of work'.  In my case the file was saved (both time, I often save...) so Eagle quit without warning. Ok my job was saved, but I lost that I was doing, and all the tools configuration (in that case I was editing a package, I loosse the mark position, the grid, the wires widths etc.......)

I don't loose a design, but I loose some times for a short-cut that exit without warning,

And as I already said THERE IS ALREADY A SHORT-CUT TO EXIT, (alt+ F4, that is far less accessible!).

Eagle is a formidable software in which we can manage short-cut, so let us manage ALL of them.

I see.. I take your point, you may lose some set-up time, after restarting again.

I maybe over-react  because I was angry at the time. When you have to finish your work and you are a little bit short on your schedule.... this kind of bad surprise is not welcome.

As I said, is this short-cut was listed in the assigned key, I would have it removed long time ago (I already removed a lot of the predefined assigned key !).

And I just check, on Linux platform the Alt+F4 work too.... maybe this alt+X was added for MAC ?

Anyway, I a bit curious, how many use this short cut ?
