No net selected!

Question

Hi all,

I'm having nightmares trying to add some components to my schematic. I can drop the component fine, but I can't connect a net to the pins. I've tried using wires and nets, which are lined up perfectly. Whenever I use the connect tool, I get the no net selected pop up. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, but I find that if I use the move tool and click repeatedly on the component and drag and drop it over the nets/wires eventually a connector symbol appears and the pin is joined. However, when I move the component, the connection is in the middle of two wires. I've deleted the extra wire, and the connection bubble disappears, but the wire/net is still joined to the component's pin. (this is what it looks like before I delete the extra wire)

Does anyone have any idea of how to fix this, or have a workaround? My clicking method works intermittently, and needless to say it's really slowing me down. For the record, I'm using 7.2.0

Hi John,

I hope you're doing well. First thing is to make sure you use the NET

command, don't use WIRE. WIRE should only be used for artistic purposes.

Hopefully a name change will one day reflect that.

What GRID size are you using? On the schematic, you should always stick

to a 0.1"(2.54mm) grid. If you deviate from that you'll find that it

becomes very difficult to get things to connect(which is pretty much

what you are describing). The reason for this is that all of the

components in EAGLE's standard library are made to a 0.1" grid.

If this is the case, then the fix is to use the snap-on-grid-sch.ulp

that comes with EAGLE to bring everything back onto a 0.1" grid. From

there you'll likely have to reconnect many of the components, make sure

to use the NET command for this. To run a ULP, type run on the command

line and press enter. Then select the ULP from the list and click Open.
