Eagle 5.5 can copy pad in package editor of a device in use but cannot delete it

Here is my scenario

I have a library with a part in it. The device has all connections made

successfully. I realized the pad sizes were wrong. I did not disconnect

the symbol/package from the device before I started editing the package

as I only wanted to change the pad sizes not the connections or pins.

As part of my pad resizing efforts I determined I could use an extra pad

to help with the pad resizing/alignment. The editor gave no error for me

to copy an existing pad and resize/move it around.

When I was finished I went to delete the extra unconnected pad and I get

the unable to delete pad from device in use error.

Is there anything I can do with out disconnecting the entire device to

delete one pad that is not going to be used anyway?

Did I run into a bug as I certainly cannot add an additional pad with

package in use but I can copy one?

Yes, to me it appears as a bug.

Hi Yes... looks like they closed the "add" case but missed the "copy"
case. I agree with your statement adding /deleting pads should be
allowed as long as they are not connected.

case. I agree with your statement adding /deleting pads should be
allowed as long as they are not connected.

Changed for version 5.6.1:

- Pads/smds can now be deleted from a package in a library, even if the
    package is in use by a device, as long as the pad/smd is not referenced
    by any pin in any device of that library.
- The PAD and SMD commands can now add pads/smds to a package, even if that
    package is in use by a device.
