IDF-TO-3D alternatives

Hi

 

I was just about to test IDF-to-3D when I had to put the breaks on. Its a frakkin online tool! That's a "NO GO" for me and the company I am working for and I just wondered if there are other solutions available which is more concerned about the users integrity than simple solutions seems to be. Also, I continue to get an warning when running the ULP saying that the eagle to 3d web service is unavailable and when the interface pop's up it goes with a warning that "Support for the EAGLE-TO-3D ULP has ended.". It does not feel safe at all as a solution to rely upon

 

Okay, sorry if I offended someone but the security cons for online tools will always out-weight the pros.

 

Bottomline, are there other tools which imports IDF's and comes with a standard library?

 

How about generate_3d_data_v091?? It seems rather unfinished to me

    Vidar, there is an IDF exporter included with the latest releases of Eagle in the ULP folder. EagleIDFExporter.ulp I believe. It only generates the IDF files and does not use any online services for this. It will export IDF files that you can then import into any local CAD tools you have. It includes a emp/library file that will generate bounding boxes around the components on the board and allows you to set the heights to get a more representative 3D model.

     

    Most of the CAD tools do offer the ability to link the .emp files to local CAD models if you have them available. Its usually based on the naming convention in your components and then the CAD files locally.

     

    The Simplified Solutions tool is doing this mapping for you and is leveraging a large component library. It also has some mapping rules in place to drive higher mapping of your local component names to the standard libraries. Its goal is to simplify the creation of the 3D model and to make it as accurate as possible by mapping the components in the board file to actual 3D models.

    And for full disclosure I am the developer of the IDF exporter and also the simplified solutions site. The ULP has a lot of features in it to drive a high success rate on output of the IDF files. It includes an algorithm to build multiple board outlines, logic to cleanup component names that are IDF safe, and also logic to detect and fix broken board outlines.
