Cannot copy Device

ghines

Hi all,

Just started using 7.2 and I want to copy one library package, save it with another name and move one pin location and change the pin descriptions.  For the life of me I cannot work this out.  It is driving me nutsimage

The library contains a symbol for the part I want to edit along with the device.  I've managed to copy the symbol, change the location of the pin in question and save it into the same library with a different name.  But that's has far as I have been able to get.  Watched a couple of YouTube videos but the versions of Eagle are older and it does not look the same.

Can't even figure out how to edit the pin descriptions.

Can someone please offer some help and the steps I need to do this so I can complete this task?  I'm obviously missing something major.

TIA

Greg

Edit:  How do you delete a package within a library?

    Hi Greg,

I hope you're doing well. There are lots of ways to copy between

libraries in EAGLE. I'm going to show you the one I find easiest.

    1. First open the library you want to copy into and minimize it. From

this point forward you will not be opening any libraries.

    2. Go to the Control Panel and expand the libraries tree.

    3. Find the library that contains the part you want to copy and expand it.

    4. If you copy the device you will get the symbol(s) and package(s)

    associated with it.

    5. Right-click on the Device(package or symbol).

    6. Left-click copy to library.

It is now in the library you had minimized. From here you can make all

your modifications without affecting the original library.

Use the info command to change pin parameters.

If you want to rename a pin use the NAME command.

Let me know if there's anything else i can do for you.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia

    Hi Jorge,

Great answer, helped a lot.  A couple of more questions if you don’t mind:-

    1.       If I open a Device in the Library Editor how do I find the name of the associated Package and Symbol?

    2.       How do I MOVE a group of objects in the Schematic Editor between pages?

    3.       How do I DELETE a group of objects in the Schematic Editor?

    4.        I add a Device to a schematic and it has the wrong Prefix.  I then change it in the Library to the correct Prefix.  Then if I  run “renumber parts…” the Prefix is not updated.  Why?

    Regards,

    1.       If I open a Device in the Library Editor how do I find the name

of the associated Package and Symbol?

For the Symbol, click on the INFO command and then click on the symbol

itself. For the package look on the right side and you'll see the

variants with the package names listed.

    2.       How do I MOVE a group of objects in the Schematic Editor

    between pages?

    1. Group the Objects

    2. Left-click on the Move icon

    3. Somewhere within the group, hold down ctrl and right-click.

The group will no be floating on your cursor. Go ahead and click on the

sheet you want to place the components and then you'll be able to place

    the group.

    3.       How do I DELETE a group of objects in the Schematic Editor?

    1. Group the Objects

    2. Left-click on the Delete icon

    3. Somewhere within the group, hold down ctrl and right-click.

You have to update or replace the part. If it's just one part it's

easier to remove it and then bring it in again.

Libraries in EAGLE don't automatically update.
