Unconnected Pins Report

gervasi
gervasi over 10 years ago

My most recent project has a three pins with wires going to them, leaving them unconnected.  They visually look like any other connected pin.  I can only see they're unconnected by moving the wire or the part.  They also show up as unconnected when I export a netlist.  There are three (3) of them in my design.  Two (2) of them show up in a ERC report in the schematic.  The last one I have no way to detect unless I move the part and notice one of the wires doesn't move.

The length of these wires appears right.  If it's an off-grid issue, it's off by less than any bodily appendage on a bee.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Is there any way to detect it in the case where it does not show up as an unnconnected pin in the ERC report?

    Hi,

For the ERC report, it's depend on how the pin is configured in your library : if a pin is set as 'NC' then you will have no error if the pin is not connected (you will have an error if you connect this pin !)... so first check the configuration of your pin in your library.

For the possible grid issue :

    A) check the library : the pin must be on the grid. Open your symbol in your library, select the 'info' tool, then click on the SW3 pin and look at the position displayed in the 'information windows': it should be a perfect multiple of your grid. if not correct it in the information windows, or with the move tool: select 'move' press CTRL an click on the pin (this will snap the pin on the grid).

    B) check your unconnected wire (same procedure : 'info' tool, check the starting and the ending position of your wire, it should be a perfect multiple of the grid, if not correct in the information windows, or with move tool and CTRL+click on the end of the bad wire)

you must not use WIRE, you have to use NET to draw your nets.
