polygon in device

Former Member

I made a PCB design in eagle 5.12 with a device that contains a polygon (rank=7). When loading this PCB in eagle 7.3 I received an error that ranking is obsolete on devices. The polygon is connected to gnd.

The problem is the default rank (and not changable) is 0 and thus creating a gap between the ground plane and the pad.

How to connect the pad to gnd (with no thermals)?

good.png is intended use and bad.png is what eagle 7.3 comes up with..

Eagle now has custom pad shapes.

Read the manual and the help for a fuller understanding.

In short, change your library package so the polygon encompasses that

center pad. The polygon will then be part of the pad and pick up the signal

name of the pin, which for your example will be gnd.

You don't show the part polygon outline here, or even the pads, but

unless its defined with 4 pins, I suspect the polygon is not enclosing

the middle of the 3 pin. If you modify it to enclose it, it should pick

up being gnd and fill like you want.

Also, if this is the case, the "good" design gives you drc errors, while

    if enclosed, it will not.

If you have a 4 pad design, I guess the thermal pad just needs to be

    invoked.
