How to Generate BOM in Schematics in Eagle 5.8?

I would like ask how can I generate a BOM in the schematics in Eagle 5.8?

I know I can add attributes to the components in the schematics, for example part number, but I found that the official bom.ulp cannot help me to export the attritbutes. Having some reserch I found that CadSoft provided a bom_with_attributes.ulp, but it only compatible with Eagle 6. I also know there is a ulp called bom-ex.ulp created by a user, but it also only compatible with 5.10 onwards only.

The original bom.ulp can only let me to edit addtitional field one by one. I think it is meaningless because I can do it better in Excel.

You can upgrade to v5.12 with your current license. The restriction on
bom_ex is, IIRC, due to a limitation in 5.8 so the upgrade will be the
way to go.

Well, except that bom.ulp does propagate that info to all the identical
parts, and lets you save the extra information in a database for future
projects. I've used this on v4 (where there are no attributes) to build
up an index of part numbers for all the components I use, although I did
edit the ULP to cope with parts that don't use the VALUE field (or use
it in a don't care manner).
