Eagle V7: library variant issues

Eagle V7: Wanted to add another package to a library part and initially added a variant. Not sure if this was correct, I deleted the variant and created a new package with a different name. Tried to add New package to device and got "variant already exists" error. How do I resolve this please?

You could try Library->Remove and try typing in the name of the object there, I have no idea if that will resolve it or not, but worth a try if you have not already attempted.

Not sure why you are getting these issues but the workaround could be to just create a new package for each variant.. not ideal, but this is an ancient version of EAGLE we are talking about, so if there is a bug, it won't be fixed in that release.

    Hi,

What do you want? - A variant or variants of the same component in this package, or a component with more than one package? Or multiple components in one package?

Multiple components in ONE package is a problem because ONE component has its footprint.

If you need to assemble multiple pieces of this component, then you must make a combined composite component with that footprint, and then put that in a package.

Variants are the same component, but with different properties, such as the mechanical body, the colour, the material, the function without changing the footprint.

It is best to create variants (in the library you have the "technology" in which you can create the variants) with the component manufacturer number and add an attribute, e.g. Delivery number on this component.
Then you can make ONE component package (there may be several packages) and a library (load these packages into the library) in which you connect these numbers in such a way that you combine the respective variants.
In this library you can then select the variant in the circuit diagram based on the attribute (technology).
