Changing drill size for all vias

autodeskguest
autodeskguest over 15 years ago

I switched board houses lately and I failed to notice the minimum drill

size was larger than all of the drill holes in my design. I have 400 vias I

need to fix now. Is there a command to do this all at once?

    Hi Chris,

Turn off all of your layers except the via layer. Group all of your

    vias

together then use the change command to change the drill diameter for

    all of your vias.

    Hope this helps.

Oh wow, I didn't realize all that can be done with the change function.

That will help in a lot of ways. Thanks!

Yes.  Go to your browser and enter the URL of a better board house.

Without knowing which drill diameter he was using, and which diameter

the board house wanted, I find this answer somewhat risky.

Indeed, many board layouters use vias that are far smaller than

necessary, causing manufacturing problems - simply because they don't

know about common design rules and sizes, and the limits (and costs) of

    different technologies.

I don't want to judge if the OPs vias were too small or the board houses

restrictions too large. At least the question has already been answered,

and that seemingly helped the OP.

I think of 20mil as my smallest diameter hole.  Anything less requires a

good reason.  If you stick to 8/8 design rules and 20 mil holes for the

minimum, then just about every board house in the world can do your board,

is unlikely to screw up, and there won't be any extra charges.

Yes it would be good to know the diameters so that we can judge this.
