Error report for unconne cted GND?

mprowe@peritonlane.net
mprowe@peritonlane.net over 10 years ago

Hi,

I have just received these boards back from the fab. On testing I have

found unconnected grounds.

See C4 GND, light blue arrow.

The problem seems to be related to polygons breaking up? See the yellow

arrow on image below.

Firstly, is it possible to prevent this happening in the first place?

If not, and more importantly, can Eagle tell me it has happened, and then I

manually punch though a couple of via's to overcome the problem?

Best regards, Martin

    Thank you Morten/Rachael,

Well! This has been a very useful learning experience.

As you say, the ratsnest report is (very) easily overlooked.

But now that you have pointed it out to me, I'm sure that it will not be

    forgotten.

Also, now I know to start looking for unconnected ratsnests, I see that the

    "length.upl"

    has an "unconnected" column.

    Thank you once again, Martin

I hope Cadsoft takes another note of this and digs out the old

suggestions to improve it. I hope you got around it by easy patching.

I think I read somewhere that this was going to be fixed, but not sure

if it was official or just another request.. Maybe cadsoft can confirm.

Yep ignore my comment, Morten is right its ratsnest not DRC.... Having a

bad day here! Typing before fully engaging brain! And I can see your images

on this version of the forum!

Edit: by this version I mean Eagle Central....

    Hi Martin,

I don't see any attachments or images in your post so I can't comment

about exactly what your problem may be but did you run the DRC on your

design before sending it off to get the boards manufactured? The DRC

will tell you about any unconnected nets.

    Best Regards,

    Rachael

This type of error slips easily (unfortunately) unless you are very

    observant.

You will find these issues if you look at the status bar after ratsnest.

It will tell how many airwires there are left, and it should of course

    be zero.

There has been suggestions to include airwire count (if not zero) in the

DRC report and even warn about them when running the CAM. This is not

    yet here (7.5.3 beta).
