Electrical contacts in Pa ckages?

Hi,

 

I wish to make an electrical connection (such that a polygon on the board

will connect to it) within a device.

Can I attach a pin to anything other than a Pad or SMD?

 

Ideally, I'd like to define a wide wire, polygon or rectangle on the top &

bottom layer to provide a thermal AND electrical contact for the physical

device.

    That's what I needed to find. First para says:

     

    As soon as the center of the pad or SMD is inside the polygon's area or a

    wire begins at the

    center of a pad, it is recognized as a part of the PAD/SMD.

     

    My line did not start at the centre of a pad. Silly me....

    PS - Just to avoid going off at a tangent, I am trying to get an

    edge-plated slot.

    I have seen the example board on OSH-Park, but that only seems to work if

    you place the slot on the board.

    I would like the slot defined in the Package.

    You have to use a SMD or a PAD. But you can cover the PAD/SMD with

    a polygon or wire. If the center of the SMD/PAD is indide the wire/

    polygon it will be recognized as part of the signal.

    Think of solder stop mask and solder paste mask as well then.....
