SHOW command

Eagle 6.4.

 

I have a bunch of signals which are named like D[0], D[1] and so on.

Interestingly, if I tell Eagle to 'show D[0]' it tells me that it can't

find that signal. On the other hand, if I click on the trace (or the

line on the schematics) and ask its info, it merrily tells me that its

name is D[0].

 

Note that these signals are part of a bus but on the schematics they

are not drawn as part of a bus. It was simply not practical, as they

are not on adjacent pins of the symbols. Thus, as far as Eagle is aware,

these are just independent signals, named D[0] and D[1] and so on.

 

Are there some special rules for the '[]' characters in signal names?

  • You shouldnt use those brackets in names.. (I'm a bit puzzled that it

    is allowed at all..!?)

     

    Yup, * and ? are also allowed. On the other hand, escaping the special

    characters in the search works:

     

    show D\[4\]

     

    will indeed find D[4]

     

    Use D0,D1,... Then you can use show D[01] to

    show them both.

     

    I used D[0] and the like because that's the way they are named in the

    FPGA's Verilog source and that's the way the DOS OrCad named bus

    members, like 4 decades ago image (Mind you, that ancient schematics

    editor had a couple of extra useful features that Eagle still lacks.)

     

    In any case, the moral of the story, as always, is: RTFM.
