Text ALIGN attribute?

autodeskguest
autodeskguest over 9 years ago

Eagle now supports anchoring text strings to the current point at the usual

nine positions (edges and middle in each dimension).  That's useful.  To do

that, you use CHANGE ALIGN to set the mode.  New text is then aligned to

the current point as specified.

However, I can't find any way to change the alignment of a existing text

string.  I searched in HELP for ALIGN, but relevant hits are only in CHANGE

and TEXT.  I tried CHANGE ALIGN, then clicking on a text string, but it

causes no change in the alignment.  How can I do this?  If not possible, is

this a bug, not implemented yet, something else?

    Hello Olin!

    CHANGE ALIGN works for me, quick test in the schematic:

    GRID inch;

    LAYER INFO;

    TEXT 'Test' (2 2);

    CHANGE ALIGN left-center (2 2);

    CHANGE ALIGN top-right (2 2);

    CHANGE ALIGN bottom-center (2 2);

    You can also change the alignment with CHANGE ALIGN and left-click the

    text's origin afterwards.

    I know that you are a poweruser, so I am not quite sure if the answer is

    really that simple. Did I misunderstand something?

    Rene

    I agree with Rene, it seems to work for me too. That is, it works for text

    strings but if say I wanted to change the alignment on another text object

    like a net label then it doesn't work for that because they don't have the

    alignment specified in that way. Maybe this is your issue?

    Best Regards,

    Rachael

    That's exactly what I did, several times, and the text just sat there.  I

    clicked right on the little cross when zoomed in.  I tried it from a script

    too.

    I just tried it again in a new Eagle session, and now it works perfectly as

    expected.  Now I can't reproduce the erroneous behavior anymore.  Weird.

    Either I was consistently doing something wrong, or there is some subtle

    bug in Eagle where this doesn't work after just the right sequence of

    operations.  I was banging on it pretty heavily testing a ULP that writes a

    long script that does a whole bunch of text move and rotation operations.

    I'll assume it was some kind of cockpit error on my part unless I run into

    this again.

    If anyone notices something flaky in this area, please report it here.

    I only tried it in the board editor, on smashed text in the tNames, bNames,

    tDocu, and bDocu layers.

    It works for me, but devices must be smashed before in .sch or .brd

    (eagle 6.6.0)
