back-annotate / re-annotate

autodeskguest

I have a customer request that a layout be re-annotated such that

smaller designators (R1, C1, D1, U1, etc) are in the upper left corner,

and larger designators are in the lower right.

1. Can Eagle do this in the board editor?

2. Can Eagle produce a text file listing the changes, i.e. R1 is renamed

to R12, C1 is renamed to C30, etc?

There is a ULP called "renumber" or similar that can do this.  However,

EAGLE has what I call constant, or immediate, annotation.  What you do in

one editor is automatically and immediately done in the other (PCB and

SCH).  So to do this properly you need both SCH and BRD file then run the

ULP in the PCB editor.  It will edit both the SCH and BRD at that same

    time.

    Cheers,

    James.

    Hi James,

Thank-you! I took a look for a renumbering ulp, and I can find several

that work on the schematic, but nothing for a layout. I searched on

rename, renumber, annotate, back annotate, back, name, number... no

results on most of them. Is it possibly under a different name?

    Cheers,

    Lawrence

A crash course in ULP writing, and about a half day of fiddling, et

voila! I can back annotate and spit out an OrCAD swap file. I can now

back annotate the layout, schematic, and generate a matching bill of

materials. It does not yet support a user menu, but that's tomorrow's

    problem.

    Thanks again,

    Lawrence
