Display Layers window not showing layers in order

Hi

 

I changed a 4 layer design into 6 layers in the DRC settings. Went from using layer 1, 2, 15 and 16 to also include layer 3 and 14.

Now, in the "display layers" window, the two new layers do appear but not where you would expect them to be. Layer 3 and 14 are squeezed in between layer 250 and layer 100

Yup, layer 250 comes before layer 100. Is there a way to rearrange the visualization of the layers so that they are shown in the correct order? Thats question 1.

 

This is also related to another problem or weakness, in my opinion. I like to remove layers above 100 which I do not use. Say that I do that in design A and save. If I now opens

another design B, where several layers above 100 is used for user data, I offcourse expect them to be visible in design B. And they are, But If I now repoen Design A, the same layers that where visible in B (above 100) appears in this design too.

This is a bit anoying because I use these layers to store mechanical information like DXF imports etcetra for alignment. These layers are renamed to reflect their contents. Often this reflect the name of a customers project. Now, suddenly the name of another customers project appears as a layer (empty) in a design for a different customer. Not good, even though I am the only one seeing this information. Why ain't enabled layers following the design? Thats the second question.

    Hi Vidar,

     

    I hope you're doing well. Are you working with projects? If you make

    projects then the .epf file will keep track of the layers that are being

    used. If you are just storing the files in a plain folder then the

    scenario you describe becomes possible.

     

    I would suggest creating a new project and then copying your schematic

    and board to that folder.

    Yes we always use projects, but in this particular case the project was not created from scratch (i.e. from eagle command window "create new project") but we copied an existing design to a new folder including the epf fil and all, and renamed.


    Tried a different approach. Opened the brd xml file in a text editor (textpad) and used the sort function to reorder the layers. This worked well and problem solved

    Then there is less certainty as to how the layers came out of order. In

    any case the solution here would be to play with the SET USED_LAYERS

    command. Here's the final lines from the mylayers script, modified to

    get the layers back in order.

     

    Set Used_Layers 1 2 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31

    32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 48 49 50 51 52   91 92

    93 94 95 96;

     

    Modify it as necessary for the layers in your design and run it in the

    command line.
