Worrying announcement on Eagle licencing

I am just a hobbyist - I can't afford a monthly (or annual) subscription for the few

small personal projects I do. Will my existing (free) install continue to work indefinitely?

Or should I now transfer to Kicad?

Hi Neil,

Your existing v7 (??) freeware install will continue to work and v8 also has a freeware version. I've not compared the limitations of each but I think within the freeware licenses they are equivalent. It's when you get to the paid subscriptions vs paid earlier licences that there are differences which are causing some concern. If you are only using the freeware version for hobby use I don't think you need to worry.

Hi Rachael,

I didn't see that option in the Farnell announcement (it only mentioned the monthly or annual payment options), but I didn't read the full detail.
I'd better go and do that.

Hi Neil,

Farnell's announcement was regarding the subscriptions they sell I suspect. Look directly at the download for the freeware version of EAGLE here: http://www.autodesk.com/products/eagle/free-download
