How to connect nets in modules to each other without ports?

hi

 

i'm trying to use module design and encounter such problem. looks like each module has isolated nets, but i want power lines to be connected in all modules without ports. i'd like to have main page with modules to be neat and beauty, without tons of power ports. is it possible?

    Unfortunately, as you have found, if you don't bring your power nets out to ports then they don't get connected, I don't believe there is a way around that.

     

    I don't find it too much of a problem and I can still make my top level look neat with the power rails being hooked up to each module instance. You just need to be careful about how you define your module so the power / ground ports are in consistent locations so you can make it look tidy and clear.

     

    The advantage of bringing them out is you can see from your top level exactly what voltage rails each module is powered from. It's maybe not a concern if you just have a single power rail or a very simple power structure but if you have lots of power rails then it can be helpful to be able to visualise all the power connections from the top level.

    There surely is. Net names are global, so simply assign the same net

    names and they all are connected with each other.

     

    However, if you don't use ports or at least labels (I prefer labels

    anyhow), you'll quickly get completely confused about what's connected

    to whom.

    For general flat schematics you are correct but as soon as you use modules to create a hierarchy then net names do not connect across the hierarchy and need to be brought out on a module port.

    ok. it's not a big deal to treat powerlines as a ports. but it would be so nice to have a display filter for ports by type (power, in, out, io, etc...). checkboxes for example
