Delete lines on Dimension layer

mschap1
mschap1 over 7 years ago

Hello fellow Eagle users,

I am looking for some help with deleting some entries on the Dimension layer, Layer20.

I am currently using version 4.16 of Eagle on a Windows machine and I inadvertently

entered some text and wires on Layer20 and I do not seem to be able to delete them.

I have tried to get information on the entries and all I get is the error beep indicating

there is nothing selectable. I have also turned all layers on to see if this could allow me

to select the desired items for deletion but this was not successful.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Mike

    Hi Mike,

Are you able to see the origin of the lines/text that you want to delete?

    Doug

IMHO it was not possible in Version 4.16 to delete a used layer.

What you can try is to change layer 20 to the desired layer.

For text you click on the originals, for wires you click on them or you

group the desired area and then change layer.

I do not see any origin lines on either the test or lines. I have tried to change the layer

of both the test and lines but I only get the error beep. If I try to group them together I

get the same results, an error beep.

    Greetings,

Are these lines/markings part of a library object?  If so, you might need to edit the library object to remove them from the layer.

    Hello Gene,

The lines and text are not a library object. They had been entered on the board layer 20 (Dimension Layer).

Doug has suggested a number of ways to eliminate the lines and text but nothing has worked so far.

Instead of continuing to fix the problem I will be starting the layout from a clean board as I am under

a time crunch. I will return to the problem board in the near future to understand where the problem is.

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

if it is not a secret you can send me the file(s) for studying.

BTW I hope you use the version 4.16R2 which is the latest release of v4.

That will not help you on your current issue but contains some corrections

and your license is OK for that.

    You can download it

    ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/eagle/program/4.16r2/

    Mike,

    • do switch visible only layer 20 (DISPLAY NONE; DISPLAY 20;).

    • Do you still see these entries?  Then they really are in layer 20.

    • If not visible, make visible one layer after the next at a time to

    determine their real layer.

    • If visible, can you now MOVE them?  Then you should also be able to

    DELETE them.

    • If not movable, GROUP ALL — is the group empty (status line)?  (Or, if

there are other intendend elements in layer 20, does a group move

include the intended elements but not your unwanted ones?)

Then they are part of a library element.

    • Switch additionally visible only layers 23 and 24, the origins.  GROUP

ALL, begin MOVEing group (be sure to abort MOVE with Escape to not

    damage your design).

    • Do they now move together with the origins?  Then they are really part

of a library part, try moving one origin cross after another to

determine which part it is (always aborting with Escape).

    • If they still do not move, I'm afraid the file is corrupt and you will

have to start over from scratch.

    Good luck, Hans
