Looking for Raspberry Pi PCB Layout in Eagle (or whatever tool they used)

Arduino is, of course, open source and proudly hosts not only the source code but the design files for all their boards.

Raspberry Pi is made by a not-for-profit organization, but although I found images of the PCB layout, I haven't found files.

 

We want to build a board based on the Raspberry Pi.  It would obviously save a lot of work if we had the design files for the Pi, and could just remove any hardware we don't want and add the extra hardware we do want.  Is the Pi Open source? If so, can anyone point me to the project?

    Hi Dov,

     

    (by the way, this post is in the wrong section, it is probably better in the Raspberry Pi section.).

    The RPI is closed hardware, not open source (and I think some of the firmware is still closed source too).

    Furthermore, I think it's not possible to obtain the processor in prototyping-level quantities without direct 1:1 communication with Broadcom,

    and they may have reference designs they can give you.

    An alternative option is to use the Pi Compute Module, for which there are EAGLE design files for boards that it can plug into (see an example board that uses the Pi CM here,

    called OpenPi - a subset of the Raspberry Pi functionality, it doesn't have Ethernet for instance).

    Yet another alternative is to design around the BeagleBone Black (BBB) instead, for which there are design files (but not in EAGLE format unless a conversion

    is possible) and parts are specifically chosen to be available in single or prototyping-level quantities. The AM3358/9 (as used in the BBB) is used commercially in

    products other than the BBB. One well-known example of a custom implementation of the BeagleBone Black is the BeagleBone Green.
