How to lock components from updating

eagle1301

Hi,

I am adding a Phoenix connector to my current schematics, the connector is a 10 pin connector and I am already using some packages from the same library so a warning shows up :imageimageimage

The problem is when I click yes, the components that I am already using change position in my current PCB as well as the pads size changes, the question is, how do I prevent the already used components from updating?. I locked the components that I don't want them to update but they update anyway. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

    Hello

If you review the abilities of the Lock function by reading the 'Help' you will see it

"Locks the position and orientation of a part in the board"

Nothing is said about lock isolating a part from updates from the library. So the attempt to use lock for the purpose you intend is not likely to work.

The warning suggests to me that you are adding a device from the 'same named' library as a device already in the design.

Eagle has detected that there is a difference in the layout of a 'same named'  package and/or symbol. This situation cannot be permitted to occur in a board or schematic file.

For whatever reason, the old connectors were added from a library that, while it has the same library name and some same symbol names, they are not the same as the same named objects of the one you are trying to add.

The short answer / solution is to create a new library with a different name to that already used by the other connectors.  Copy the 10 pin Phoenix connector into the new library and use it from there.

    HTH
    Warren

    Warren,

Your short answer/solution worked, I actually just renamed the library and loaded what I needed and did not update what I already had.

Thank you very much for the tip.

    Regards.
