         Are VIAs the best way to make small breadboard areas on a PCB?

    Hi John,

     

    yes I think so. Use vias and place them in the fitting grid. You can NAME the vias if you would like to have them connected to certain signals.

    As an alternative you could define this area in the library as a package with pads. Might be interesting, if you are working in the layout without consitent schematic in the background.


    What are you planning to do exactly?

    Helli John,

         In my libraries, I have few different "packages" for prototyping, like this:

    This one accepts SOT23, narrow and wide SOIC, 0.3" and 0.6" DIP.

    For 0402 - 0805 discretes I use rectangular vias 76/42 mils,

    which I place on board after "GRID 0.1" command.

    A customer wished the unused area on the PCB to have pads on 0.1" centers for installing simple custom circuitry to handle changes that come up as boards are used in jet engine combustor testing.
