    Hi, I'm new to Eagle and am working on my senior project with it. As I am a college student I have the free version. I am trying to make a board compatible with freescale's "tower" system, which does fit in the constrains of the size limit for the free version of eagle. My problem is that I am trying to put a pci-express slot on both sides of the board. to do this, however I have to mirror one of the slots, but when I do I get the error that the light edition of eagle cannot perform the requested action. It would still fit in the size constraints, so I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Richard,

    I am new to Eagle and have a couple of questions.

    1) How do I copy a package from one library to another so I don't have to create them from scratch every time?

    2) Can I make split power planes during layout?

    Mike

    Hello,

    it is possible to place components with a script file that uses the MOVE command with a coordinate. You can even set a relative origin and use relative or polar coordinates.

    I believe I wrote this before in this meanwhile too long thread.......

    But here an example for a script file:

    # Set grid

    GRID mm 0.1;

    # Set relative origin  in the the board

    MARK (4.4 3.0);

    # Move components to a relative coordinate

    MOVE D1 (R2 0);

    MOVE D2 (R12 10);

    MOVE D3 (R22 20);

    MOVE D4 (R32 30);

    MOVE D5 (R42 40);

    #Example with polar coords, arrange LEDs in a circle, 10 degree steps.

    MOVE D1 (P12 0);

    MOVE D2 (P12 10);

    MOVE D3 (P12 20);

    MOVE D4 (P12 30);

    MOVE D5 (P12 40);

    Hope this helps.

    Richard

    Hi,

    I have to choose PCB editor and got here. I need to know if and how in CadSoft Eagle One could auto-position elements according to some rules. Exactly my Client wants to have LEDs positioned with some Font that he has. Because of size and number of LEDs I am unable to do it manually.

    The only thing that I have found is placing BMP image in Background which is not sufficient. Is there a Solution in Eagle Editor? What would You recommend?

    Regards

    Hi Jb,

    When you go from schematic to board you'll notice that all of your components are placed to the left of a grey rectangle. That grey rectangle represents your work area. Before you can autoroute you must first move all of your components into the work area, otherwise the autorouter will not work.

    hth,

    Jorge Garcia

    Dear Mr. Richard_H,

    Recently I downloaded the FREEMIUM version of the Eagle 5.11 PCB CAD. I made my schematics, and after that, I can't put the AUTOROUTE to work. Is this FREEMIUM version limitated at this point? I thought that I could make my board from my schematic. Isn't it?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,

    no I am sorry, we don't have printed books available. You could do a print-out of the pdfs.

    Regards,

    Richard

    I did previously have a hard copy of the Eagle V4 manual, is a hardcopy copy for V5 available?

    Hi Phil,

    you won't get any physical deliveries.

    EAGLE comes with manual and tutorial as pdf files which can be found in the EAGLE-5.11.0/doc directory.

    Regards

    Richard
