Eagle - Probably a blonde question

Former Member

I've decided to use Eagle for my College project requirements. After talking to some of the more experienced engineers at my workplace they reccommended from the outset that I try and get as many components I require from Farnell, simply because I downloaded EAGLE from Element14..

I was playing around creating a rough circuit, adding any components (from ALL libraries), just to try and get a feel of it.

I now want to take my circuit to the next step and create my PCB with the correct components (selected from Farnell's Catalog)...

Yet there seems to be only 1 item in Farnells "Library"?

Am I doing something wrong? I'm from the U.K if it makes any difference.

Best regards

Oliver

I'm also started with Eagle the Freemium Edition. I downloaded it from the Eagle website.

Everything works out fine and the library has a lot of components from many different fabrics. Maybe you should downloaded also the original Freemium version from the Eagle website.

    Bye

    Hi,

the farnell.lbr is a library that was contributed from one of our customers. It is a simply library and has nothing to do with the actual CadSoft/Farnell connection.

I am also pretty sure that we will not have all Farnell articles in our libraries. I don't know how many components are available, but I sure that we would have to work years to get them into EAGLE libraries.

So what is new now is the Designlink interface. It is realized with the help of an ULP where you can connect to the Farnell/Newark webserver and look for components and get technical information, information about price and availability and so on. The current EAGLE 5.10.0 supports a simply search function which is documented in the Video section: http://www.element-14.com/community/community/tools/cadsoft_eagle?view=video

The next release, EAGLE 5.11.0. will come with an improved designlink interface that also allows to create a parts list of your schematic with the Farnell order codes and you can at least create a shopping basket then.

A part of the libraries in EAGLE 5.11.0 will already contain Farnell/Newark order codes.

    Regards,
    Richard

    Hi Richard

Thanks for your in-depth answer, I will take a look at the above. Thanks alot! What are the Eagle libraries compiled of if you don't mind me asking? Is it just the general public creating components for others to use. I've no issue with creating my own components as practice is always good.

    I'm more curious that anything.

    Best regards

    Oliver

    Hi Oliver,

library creation usually is done manually. This means our librarian takes the data sheet of the component and creates symbols, packages, devices... Of course there are some ULPs that make life easier.

    Regards,
    Richard
