How to remove value from showing up on board layout without modifying part in library

windell747

Hello, I have a bunch of components in my schematic that don't have any values because I had to delete them because they were showing up on the board layout. Is there a way to specify values for resistors, capacitors and such without them showing up on the board layout and without modifying the standard libraries that come with eagle?

thanks,

windell

    Hi Windell,

I think you're saying you don't want certain text (i.e. the component values) to be present in your board layout (e.g. because it clutters the silkscreen). You did not need to delete the values from the schematic. All you need to do to hide the values from the board view, is to switch off the layer 'tValues' and 'bValues'.

Similarly, if you wish to generate gerber files without these layers, then when you get to that stage, in the CAM processor, you can switch off these 'tValues' and 'bValues' layers too.

If you wish to not hide all the values but selectively make modifications (e.g. delete some values, move some and resize some), then this is done by separating the component from the text in the board view, using the 'Smash' icon in EAGLE. Once you've done that, you can manipulate the land pattern separately from the text.
