Creat Gerber file

Hi, I have Eagle 8.0.1 not used at all for creating Gerber files, but I am trying to get a board manufactured, when I use the CAM processor everything seems fine but when I click Process job I error pops up "No layer selected" if I click OK it seems to carry on and create gerber files but then when I view gerber files that I have sent to manufacturer, they throw up errors.

  • Attention please, the minimum drill size is out of our capability, your order may be canceled
  • Can not identify the drill count
  • Can not identify the board outline
  • CNC Function Keypad updated version 3.GTO(null): Non-gerber274X/excellon formats
  • CNC Function Keypad updated version 3.TXT(null): Non-gerber274X/excellon formats

OK the drill size maybe 0.6mm for Vias is a bit small can sort that one

The rest below show seem fine

  • CNC Function Keypad updated version 3.GTS(Top Soldermask):Generic Gerber file
  • CNC Function Keypad updated version 3.GTL(Top Layer):Generic Gerber file
  • CNC Function Keypad updated version 3.GBS(Bottom Soldermask):Generic Gerber file
  • CNC Function Keypad updated version 3.GBL(Bottom Layer):Generic Gerber file

In top copper I selected " Top, Pads and vias

In Bottom copper I selected " Bottom, Pads and Vias

No S Screen

Top Solder Mask " Pads and vias

Bottom Solder Mask "Pads and vias

Drill " Drills and Holes

Thought I selected Dimensions in top layer so that may be one problem

Can anyone point me into what I did wrong

Many thanks   John

John, Didi you run the excellon job to generate the drill information? I can't understand why the 'No Layer Selected' occurred, as it appears that you top/bottom copper has the proper selection. Gene

Also on the excellon job, it is a CAM file that is run the same as the Geber_RS274X file is run.  It produces the drill data.

    Hi John,

Usually you don't need to touch anything in any of the tabs in the CAM processor window, all you need to do from there is click File->Job->Open and open an existing job file with  .cam suffix. When you open such a file, it will automatically populate all the tabs correctly in the CAM processor window, based on the .cam file content. Then just click 'Process Job'. It will create all the correct files in one go.

The next question is, where do you find the correct .cam file? Some are supplied with EAGLE, and sometimes some PCB manufacturers provide one too, to suit their process. You can always edit it in the tabs, and then save it for future reuse too, if you want to adjust some parameters.

I think i got most of the problem sorted only thing the PCB company JLCPCB is telling me..i have not specified dimensions when the tab in gerber process is selected in Eagle top and bottom copper also telling me the Excellon drill is not recognised with an asterisk..i will have a look on there website to see if they have a file i can download to create the gerber files..
