Polygon with hole

Former Member
Former Member over 15 years ago

Hello All,

I am using Eagle 5.7, and I am trying to create a logo to be used in silk-screen or copper layer. What I have done so far is to use import-bmp.ulp to import a bitmapped version of the logo. I then want to trace it using polygons, in order to get a vector representation of the logo.

I am having difficulty producing a polygon with a hole in it, e.g. tracing the letter O (in a special font). For top abd bottom copper layers, I can use the restrict layers, but this will not work if I copy the logo to a different layer. Is there a way to draw a polygon that has a hole in it?

What methods are other people using to get logos on PCB silk screen?

Kind regards,

Mikkel Holm Olsen

    Hi,

As you already discovered EAGLE doesn't have an internal restric layer.  The most common method for this is

to draw your polygon outlining the area you wish to void. If this is a signal polygon, cover the resulting gap with a wire with the same name asthe polygon.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Ed

    Just as an addendum:

There are plans to add a possibility to have restricted areas in inner layers. For drawing layers (non-copper layers) there are no such options planned. You have to draw the polygon, as Ed already wrote,  "outlining the area you wish to void".
