4 layers in Freemium?

At:
http://www.element-14.com/community/docs/DOC-21726 read, amongst other things:
----------------------------------------------
Freemium offers customers double the number of layers and four times the number of sheets compared to the previous free software version of EAGLE (“Freeware”),
----------------------------------------------

I

So I downloaded the files, and got the time limited trial version license key.
I have now searched in vain for the extra 2 layers, would have been nice to try, and was the reason for downloading the new version.

Where are they, how do I access them?

Cheers, Finn Hammer

One of the changes to 5.8 from 5.7 is that by default, it looks like there's only two layers (even for the professional version).

You need to enable the layers by changing the design rules. I'm not sure whether you're meant to use layers 1, 2, 3 and 16, or 1, 2, 15 and 16 for the 4-layer board, but you need to change the Layers design rules to something like "(1*2*15*16)" - this will get you layers 1, 2, 15 and 16. If it's 1, 2, 3 and 16, then change the "15" to a "3".

Type "help drc", and then follow the link to "Design rules" for an example.

I'm not 100% familiar with what I'm meant to enter here; you may get a warning. I've taken the default DRC, and changed the isolation to "0.6mm", "0.5mm" and "0.6mm" between the layers respectively (I don't use blind/buried vias, so I'm not really that worried about that aspect).

Once you've done this, you can then enable the layer by typing in:

    "layer 2" (or "layer 3"/"layer 15").

This will then allow it to be selected from the drop-down.

An edit: I thought I had found an easier way late last week, but I can't seem to replicate it, so I had to spend a while doing this way which appears to work. This easier way may actually exist...

I take it that it worked for you then image

You can save the DRC so it will re-load for the current project (any existing/new projects you'll need to load your saved DRC, but it will remember it for that project).
