Creating a new device by editing an exsisting device

Is there a way to create a new device by editing an exsisting device. For instance the opamp AD8554 is different from the device AD8544 in name and decription only. They share a the same pin assignments and package variants. AD8544 is in the analog-devices.lbr, but I can't seem to find a way to create the AD8554 without starting a new device. Any help?

    Hello Paul,

     

    do you know that you can drag and drop a device from the Contorl Panel's treeview into an opened library editor window?

    Simply drag the already existing device from the Control Panel into the library editor window. EAGLE will prompt a message that this device already exists and asks for a new name. Name it and you have two identical devices with different names. Now you can modify it.

    just in the library tree, right click the AD8554 adn copy it to your new library. you should open a library editor before this operation.

    and modify it: change the all name ---> disconnect the connection and re-connect them


    this is a very simple way to create device from similar device..

     

    when I write here, I thinked your question again. your goal is can be done but I don't suggest you to do it use following method:

     


    you can rename your device to AD85. next, in the device window of library editor, create a new, select the same package and give it new variant name : 44, so the complete name is AD8544, and add a new technology. at last, connect the pin according the pin define of AD8544's datasheet.

     

    but this method not right way. only different variant should use this method.
