Eagle libraries for US parts

SMD111
SMD111 over 15 years ago

I got a full version of Eagle and am somewhat dissappointed that its libraries are dominated by EU part makers while certain parts common in US cannot be found at all.

Are there any US libraries for Eagle? Does Newark have any Eagle libraries that match its stock?

Thanks.

    Hi,

what are you looking for? rcl.lbr and 74xx.lbr, for example, come with US symbols for resistors, caps and the logic devices.

    Regards,

    Richard

Richard, I would not be writing here about resistors.

To answer your question, I was looking multiple parts, and here is the problem:

I have 318 libraries installed by Eagle. Yet, I wish good luck to anyone trying to find Teledyne relays, Cosel converters or Clare optocouplers.

Even such simple thing as Molex 70543-series connectors. Or how about 1N4001?

My point is that if none of the major US suppliers (Allied, Newark, Mouser, Digi-Key, Arrow etc.) carries parts from Eagle standard libraries (such as "Schroff Current Bus Bars" or "Hirschmann connectors") - those libraries are useless for developers in the US.

On the other hand, Eagle did not have a single part from my BOM, and those are not exotic at all: 1N4001 is a good example, or how about the 1N914 ?

Of course, I had to select parts with matching packages, edit them and save as "custom" device. Making sure that the package is the same takes time because one has to read the dimensions off the grid and match them with drawings on the manufacturer's datasheet.

But what is more custom - a potentiometer from Bourns (not found in Eagle) or "Telefunken U217B Triac Control Circuit"?

    Hi again,

    sorry for my late reply.....

You are certainly sure that we currently have more "europe-specific" components in the libraries. I will forward your point of view to our librarian. Let's see how to improve the "US section" for the future.

Concerning the diodes, you mentioned. You are certainly right, there is for example no 1N4001 in our libraries. But we have diodes.lbr, which contains diodes in different packages. They have a value that can be changed easily in the schematic/layout with the VALUE command. There is a similar situation with resistors and capacitors, for example. We have "only" one device and you can define the value of it in the schematic. So it reduces the number of components in the lbrs.  But as I wrote above. I will discuss this with our librarian.

Just as an addendum to all our readers here: How to search for components in EAGLE?

Or to have the FAQ as a doc file:
