Eagle Electrical Rule Check and Design Rule Check

Hi,

 

I'm currently comparing different PCB design packages, one of them being Eagle.

I was surprised to find Electrical Rule Check and Design Rule Check are offline tools to be invoked manually by the user.

Are there any concrete plans to make them online checks in a next version ?

    Hi Ivan,

     

    currently there are no fixed plans for an online DRC in the Layout. We had some discussion about this recently, but I think it is not a too urgent issue. If your license comes with the Autorouter module you can use the  Follow-me router that can be used for manual routing. The Follow-me router takes care on all design rules. It's already a kind of online DRC then.

     

    For the schematic it does not make sense to have the ERC online. When you think you finished your work run the ERC and let EAGLE check for basic logical things....

    About online DRC.

    I was not aware about the Follow-me router. I took a look at it, and this can indeed be considered an online DRC. Great !

     

    About online ERC

    I dissagree  it does not make sense. While drawing schematics you can easily get into situations connecting 2 nets toghether intentionally. In such case you might accedentally select a wrong pin or net. If selecting a wong pin or junction point would lead to connecting incompatible pins (eg multiple out pins and or suply pins) you would like to get notified before the connection is made. Detecting this much later can cause quite some puzelling to unravel the net. I do agree the impact in case of ERC errors usually is less compared to DRC, still if i'm trying to connect incopatible thing i would like to get an ERC warning before the connection is made.

    yes you might be right. In some cases an online ERC canmake sense. I will discuss this subject with our development poeple....
