import other formats XML Eagle6

brianspark
brianspark over 12 years ago

I purchaed Eagle 6, but am still using 5.12 I was reading 'What's New in Version 6'

It says "The new XML database structure provides the ability to write scripts that manipulate designs in the

EAGLE format which will give users huge productivity benefits. You can make design changes, import

information from other designs, and even translate from other formats."

Is there a document that shows how to do this?

I tried running v5.12 and vesion 6.2 on the same PC and had some issues, so I uninstalled v6 untill I finish a few of the boards I have working in v5.

Thanks,

Brian

    Hello Brian,

    the change to the new XML data structure was overdue. There were a lot of restrictions in EAGLE due to the former binary data format we developped more than 18 years ago. There was no room for further and new development.

    There are some first benefits for you as a customer. No limits in drill diameters, sizes, number of package variants and technologies in the libraries, for example.  BRD, SCH and LBR files are editable in a text editor. The XML data structure is so to say self-explaining. Use an editor that works with syntax highlighting for XML and it makes reading easy.

    Now we are able to manipulate the files with the text editor. Of course you have to be careful and you should know what you are doing... image

    I'm pretty sure that there will occur some ULPs in the nearer future that will allow comfortable editing.

    If you want to install both EAGLE licenses at the same time at one computer, please look at:

    Regard,

    Richard
