Different design rules for clearance on inner and outer layers

Former Member
Former Member over 12 years ago

I use EuroCircuits as PCB manufacture company and they recently decided to give errors on copper thickness. The maximum copper thickness depends on the clearance. I now would like to design top layers with 0.1mm clearance that will result in 12u start copper(30u end) that is nescessary for some BGA designs and 0.125mm clearance on internal layers to get 35u thickness on internal layers.

I would like to know if, and how, it is possible to have different design rules for top and bottom layers than for internal layers.

Thanks,

   Diederik

    Hi,

it is not possible to have different Design Rules sets for different layers.

But what could help is to define two sets of design rules files. If you would like to check only inner layers, load the dru file for inner layers for example, and DISPLAY only inner layers in the layout editor. Now run DRC. It will check all layers, but will display only the errors of the currently active signal layers in the ERROR LIST.  Maybe this helps a bit.

    Best regards,

    Richard
