Eagle Schematic Question from a new user

bikerbob

I made my symbol and then my package and device. I add my device to my schematic and all the pin numbers are P$1,  P$2 . I have looked and looked and cant seem to find how you can make them just 1,2,3 without the P$. I have other parts from other libraries that have just single numbers on pins so I know there is a way. Any help would be great because the help in Eagle doesn't seem to touch on this subject.

When you place the pins/pads in the package editor it gives default names of P$1, P$2, P$3, etc.... Edit the package and use the name command to rename all the pads to 1, 2, 3, etc....

    Best Regards,

I wonder why they put the P$ on every pad? When you have an 84 pin part you have to do 84 edits and delete P$ on every pin. Seems like you ought to have a place to globally prevent the P$ from being added. Is there a way to enter one pad and then alter that one and go from there to prevent having to do the edit for every pin?

    Thanks

For consistency and to differentiate from other numbered things, N$ for nets, B$ for busses, P$ for pins, etc.

I don't think there isn't an easy rename method unfortunately, although I think it should be fairly easy to do with a ULP. Alternatively you could redo all your package to replace all the pads with the correct pin name from the start. So for example if you want to place smd pads for all your 84 device pins then you'd issue the command:

    smd '1'

And then keep clicking to add all your pads and it will auto increment from 1 to 84 as you place them and there will be no P$. You can embellish this command to specify the pad size etc too. See the help for smd or pad to give you more information.

    Best Regards,

    Rachael
