RE: extending the dimension layer

Hi,

 

I have unable to extend the dimension layer of my board. Its showing as unrouted and is not editable

Please find the screenshots for better understanding.

 

Kindly help with this.

Its not allowing me to extend the dimensions do I have to change it in the library itself?

    Suggestion for your routing in your image:

    you can also change the wire to the top layer and route on an other way, e.g. before the connectors.

     

    The dimension - space - is the area you can put your parts and you can routing in this area, in this space.

    This dimension is 4000 mm x 4000 mm.

     

    Then you can do what you want in this area.

    All in all, you only sets boundaries (shrink the working area) in which you now have your smaller dimension (4000x4000 minus your area) for your work.
    In principle, the dimension layer is a virtual layer.
    It then gets with the limitation its "body".

     

    The second layer that you should use for the boundary is the Milling layer.
    This layer is stored directly on the dimension layer.
    This Milling-Layer now makes the boundary for the board.

    The board manufacturer knows this, and makes the milling layer itself, if you have drawn only the boundary on the dimension layer.
    The limitation "creates" the board edge during the production of the board.

     

    For your Arduino template (limitation), of course, you can expand the dimension directly in the PCB.
    It is only a suggestion from Arduino that the boards look like this.
    Only the holes for the mountings and connectors must be in the same place so that you are compatible with the other Arduino boards.

     

    AND - you can routing the wires in more then one small dimension.
    Simple, you can create modules in the schematics, which you place in the dimension together (board islands), so close as you need.

    you mean that I have to do it in the Actual PACKAGE?

    Hi,

     

    no, i mean here in the PCB editor. For just once used.

    Because it can be that another time you needs the smaller (original) version of board dimension.
