Select>Connection   tool bug???

jstrautman
jstrautman over 8 years ago

When working on a schematic sheet... when I click the Connection tool in the Select ribbon menu and then click on a wire on my schematic layout, the wire does indeed get selected like I want and all other wires and parts get greyed out.  But when I press Esc to get rid of the tool, all other parts and wires on my schematic stay greyed out and I cannot select any of them.  No matter what tool I pick, I cannot get those parts to go back to normal.

Is this a bug in the software?  Or am I missing something very easy to get the sheet back to normal?

On the view tab, in the schematic section, click Clear Masks.

This just seems a very strange way of doing things because in CS you're missing a bunch of tools from AD that would allow you to filter and mask off parts.  In AD it makes more sense.

Here is one more way you can go about it:

Home > Select > Connection, click a connection on the schematic will mask out everything else so that the connection is effectively highlighted. There is a convenient shortcut key to clear the mask: Shift+C which I find very useful and worth remembering. It's the same functionality as the button View > Clear Masks.

A similar function to select connection is to hold the Ctrl key and double click a Sheet Entry or a Port. These objects are used to connect between sheets in the heirarchy and this technique navigates to the other sheet and sets a temporary mask. This type of mask can be cleared by just left clicking on the sheet, so you don't even need to clear the mask.

If you use Tools > Cross Probe and click a schematic component, the PCB will be masked except for that component. It can then be seen easily and selected, edited, etc., without affecting other objects.
